Mini Museum @ Jackson
Art has appeared in history by way of preserving
events and information about people.
As an opportunity to engage student's talents
with our community, we challenge the history
and art students to review the displays and submit
their own art depicting an event or person in history
that we did not reveal.
Students in grades 7-12 are invited to participate.
Come to the library to get an entry form and submit
it with your art by March 8.
A schedule of "Art in History" for the first few
months of 2019 is posted in the library.
"Aliens on Vacation" by Clete Barrett Smith
"Aliens on vacation tells the story of David, a.k.a. Scrub, who is sent to spend the summer with his grandmother at her Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast in Washington State. He soon discovers his grandmothers' guests are aliens taking a vacation on Earth! Grandma puts Scrub in charge of helping her deal with her "unusual" vacationing guests. Scrub must also deal with the local sheriff who is suspicious of the Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast and wants to shut it down. This is a cute story with an excellent narrator. Great story for ALL AGES. We found ourselves laughing at loud at the antics of humans and aliens alike. A story that will make any commute enjoyable. I definitely recommend this first book in the Aliens on Vacation trilogy."

"Darkest Hour with Gary Oldman"-
"I have long been a fan of Winston Churchill. However, as I watched the movie, it appeared that I was the only one who liked him. It helped that I knew the outcome and his contemporaries did not. This was the story of his first gig as Prime Minister at a time when not everyone knew about the true nature of Hitler. Churchill did not come to the position with a good reputation as a leader. To add to his woes, he was stubborn and did not take compromise lightly. In his dismay, he turned to the public and asked them directly, one-on-one, what they wanted for the country. To a person, they responded that they still wanted to fight the Nazis. Thus, his famous speech, "We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing ground." Oldman convincingly captured Churchill's face and voice, so as an audience, I felt his conviction as if it were my ouwn country."-
